Windows 8 - ephemereality - 12-13-2013 I have recently bought a new computer with Windows 8, but I think there are issues with Java because even though I have downloaded the desktop Java version for Windows 8, I cannot make JPCSP run. I immediately get an error when I start and it shuts down. Is there any known solution to this? I suspect this may be indeed related to Java. Try this: 1 - Uninstall all Java packages installed; 2 - Install Java 7 from here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1880261.html 3 - Try running JPCSP. If it fails, try installing also Java 6: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/java-archive-downloads-javase6-419409.html#jre-6u45-oth-JPR If JPCSP only works after having Java 6 and Java 7 installed, please report it here. Since Java 6 is now completely obsolete, it's possible that we may have to completely remove JPCSP's dependencies on Java 6. I have installed both Java 6 and 7 and you need Java 6 to run the emulator RE: Windows 8 - ephemereality - 01-11-2014 Sorry for the late response. I kind of gave up when it didn't work and I downloaded a bunch of various Java versions and still the same error (though all of them 7). I'll try get the Java 6 desktop version and hope it works. Uhm... It seems Java 6 isn't available to download to the public? Oracle's homepage is so confusing. Nevermind, I found it, but it wasn't very obvious. Maybe add this link to the dummies thread? http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/java-archive-downloads-javase6-419409.html#jre-6u45-oth-JPR RE: Windows 8 - Hykem - 01-13-2014 (01-11-2014, 11:05 PM)ephemereality Wrote: Sorry for the late response. Indeed, it would be a good idea. Since Oracle migrated completely to Java 7, Java 6 distributions became tricky to find in the website. I'm also working to remove the Java 6 dependencies in JPCSP (so only Java 7 is required, and later, Java 8), but this takes some time to test properly and avoid any conflicts. |
