Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker - ULUS10509

It's also better to use dumped PSP fonts to make them look alike.

Ok, 1st time posting here, so hope this is the proper area. I'm using the current r2298 and am fairly impressed so far. Wouldn't even know where to start to make an emulator Blush I've been able to get to the start of the 1st Mission (1st time after all the cut scenes and you have a full HUD displayed). But going any further causes a huge FPS drop to the point of a slow crash @ 1 FPS, whereas it was maintaining 9 FPS upwards to 60 FPS during cut scenes. I have a PNY GTX 550Ti video card OC'd to 980/1980/2100 (4050 effective mem) and an Athlon II x2 250 over clocked to 3.66 Ghz, 4gb DDR3, Win 7 x64 Ultimate. I can run Metro 2033, Morrowind Overhaul, etc. all on full and usually see 25 fps minimum under heavy draw with multiple enemies/friendlies moving around.

I was trying to think of a simple way to get some extra FPS, and remembered that Cheat Engine has a speed hack which can increase speed in browser based games. So, I attached to the running process and upped in increments of .25 . And what happened was a decrease in FPS. So, I tried slowing down Jpcsp by .25, then buy .50, and what happened was the opposite, I actually gained 1-3 FPS. So, I'm guessing that there might actually be a bad bottleneck occurring from the programming?

If anyone has been able to get a decent FPS on this game, can you share which settings you're using? And also which processor you're using? Is Jpcsp able to take advantage of 4 or more cores of a CPU, or only 2 ? Also, it doesn't seem to want to save some info to the mem stick folder as everytime I reload, it asks which setup to copy (small or large).

Hope to have a positive response! Keep up the great work with making this awesome emulator!! You guys should get an award!
Ok, I thought I had the most recent version as I grabbed it from the Dev site, but in a link elsewhere I found out that there was a new release on the 27th so I'm installing that now. Also found an answer about using 2 cores and slight improvement from 4 or more cores as they lessen the load. I'll post if r2324 x32 improves much over previous x64 version. The x32 will loose some RAM won't it?

The newest version seems to help a bit as I can get to the gate you have to blow up. I turned off all the stuff for video like shader, etc. It helps to look up at the sky or down at the ground when far off distances are in front as it allows the FPS to stay respectable. This was running in the small default window, at my native 1920x1080 resolution. Lower res @ 1280 didn't make any difference in FPS. I'm guessing some performance upgrades are needed for Jpcsp's code to get it more efficient in the larger games. I'm doubting a larger processor will help as I'm only using 50% CPU usage under heavy scenes and RAM is around 45% on the x32 version. A cheap fix would be to allow draw distance to be altered to not appear so far off, as this would increase FPS dramatically if it wasn't trying to render fine detail so far off. Sound was about 80% there with Sonic Stage 4.3. Most of the cut scenes were perfect with a slight clipping or click every so often, and the beach would go silent in some areas, kinda like dead zones for cell phone signals.

All in all this is still a wonderful emulator in it's teething stages. Will definitely be the premiere PSP emulator until Pcsp is finalized. Keep it up guys!! Wonder if any of the hard work can be applied to the Sony Vita? :O
