GE screen, screen flickering and fullscreen
#1
A lot of games has a problem, where when you enable GE screen, the screen begin to flicker. Common problem for Falcom games (Ys Seven, Ys vs Sora no Kiseki, Bleach Soul Carnival 2), in some games' movies (Bleach - Heat the Soul 3 & 6, Tales of VS for example) Definitely there are others too. Other games like Dragon Ball Z Shin Budokai 2 - Another Road, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3, sometimes Persona 1 remake during dungeon crawling (basically games with 3D environments according to my few experience), flickering like it goes back a few frames than display everything normal, then goes back a few frames again.

In the case of the latter phenomenon, it usually fixable if I enabling GE screen to texture instead of memory, but for me, that's results in a slower gameplay. Some times Max method size has to be set to a different value.

I use the emulator in fullscreen, enabling GE screen is mandatory, because without it, the game filling the screen's 1/4 part on the lower left. GE screen also gives a nice filter to the sprites, but that doesn't matter that much, fullscreen is more important to me.

Basically, my problem is that I can't use fullscreen properly without GE screen, I have ATI, so it gives birth to a chain of problems because that combo.

A proper fix may not exist right now, but Development team: can you do something about GE screen's malfunction. Or can you do something about the fullscreen without GE screen malfunction. Either would be great. Thank you.

Which "GE screen" option do you mean?
"Only GE graphics" or "Enable saving GE screen to Textures instead of Memory"?
I know that "Only GE graphics" can cause the screen to flicker but this option is not required for full screen, you can use any of these 2 options for improved resizing in full screen.
I'm not aware of flickering caused by "Enable saving GE screen to Textures instead of Memory"...
Always include a complete log file at INFO level in your reports. Thanks! How to post a log

saving ge to textures can cause some games go black or have unintended black elements because they read the memory area where that stuff is stored to reuse it as a background or part of it, but yeah i don't think it causes flickering.

"Only GE graphics" cause flickering. Without GE graphics, my game didn't go fullscreen, but...

What? I didn't knew that.

EDIT: Tested, I only enabled "saving GE screen textures instead of memory" and my game really goes fullscreen. But it's waaay slower. However flickering with "only ge" still present in games, which needs this option for decent speed for example. And I found a flickering in Bleach - Heat the Soul 6 with only "Enable saving GE screen to Textures instead of Memory" enabled alone. It was a layer of menu over the character select screen. Nothing special just sprites, where it ask that you using a single character or a tag team.

EDIT2: And a big WTF! In some games disabling "GE graphics" with only "Enable saving GE screen to Textures instead of Memory" enabled, some videos which was too fast compared to audio now perfectly synchronized, no more async (I didn't do a test on Falcom games yet). I think async is caused by GE graphics enabled o_O

My screen without anything enabled. Monitor resolution at 640x480, internal resolution is native (any other res results in a black screen), screen ratio 4:3. Maybe I misunderstood you, but you say, that with everything disabled, I should still get a fullscreen, or I MUST use at least one of the two options: "Only GE graphics" or "Saving GE screen to textures instead of memory"?

I've found that the flickering caused by GE graphics has disappeared with later revs. Are you trying out the latest one when posting this?
