An non-SSE version is useless since any decent intel/amd processor should support SSE/SSE2/SSE3 at least. Remember when we started this project, I had only an AMD Phenom II and so we only used SSE2. So the minimal version should be at least run SSE/SSE2 by letting c++ compiler to issue those instructions by default.
