I have finished the US version, you have to use psp fonts and make sure "use debug font" is not enabled
Also tick "ignore memory errors"

Yes, you also mention that need skip some animation for freeze issue.

Only two, and later in the game, first after around 10 hours, second near end of the game.
Maybe it's different for jpn version ?
Did you try skiping it to continue ?
