Project64 is a completely free and open-source emulator for the Nintendo 64 and 64DD written in C++.
Capable of playing your favorite N64 games on your PC with high definition graphics, excellent compatibility, save states, built-in cheat codes, and more.

Does anyone remember ultraHLE? It was 1999 and we had hardware like 3dfx Voodoo2 graphics accelerator and for CPUs a Pentium 2, Pentium 3 or a K6 revision at about 400-500Mhz. N64 was 3 years old and that was when, out of nowhere, ultraHLE came about. I think realityman was the nickname of the developer that released it. Boy was I surprised to see mario64 running on my computer.  That was a huge milestone for emulation history as we had a contemporary system almost fully emulated and at decent speeds. Project64 was the second released emulator (don't quote me on that there might have been others) to emulate the nintendo 64 properly (a.k.a. run commercial games) and unlike ultraHLE which was abandoned shortly after it's release, Project64 is still under development with amazing visual improvements upon the standard N64 output, excellent compatibility and top noch performance.
