Is this normal?

I recently downloaded JPCSP emulator to play psp games since my psp was broken. my favourite game is flOw which is the only game i was able to recover. however when i play, part of the screen is blocked by another black screen. Is this normal?

Regentropfen, it's depends on what you mean as "normal". Find an issue in current version of Jpcsp - yes, it's normal. Unfortunately, this game still have some graphics issues, i created thread for it, and include logs, which could help devs to figure out this issue.

I tried the compatibility options in your post and it works the smaller screen isnt there anymore, it appears that ''Use Software Rendering'' makes it go away. however it makes the game laggy..
