Which CPU to get for RPCS3?
#1
So from what i understand the cell had 1 PPE core with SMT, and 7 SPE cores (1 reserved for the OS) so the emulator should be able to use 8 threads and the best CPU for this would be a 6900k, but that would set me back 1k for the cpu and 150 minimum for the mobo. (and i really don't feel like paying 750 bucks extra just to get better RPCS3 perf.)

but what i was wondering is if maybe the single core performance for the 2 PPE threads might be much more important than having a strong 8thread performance since the SPE's are so weak so a 6700k might possibly be able to outperform a 6900k in RPCS3.

so if any of you have an i7 4 and an 8 core (from recent generations) could you please compare them and check if there is even any significant performance difference.

so what would you guys recommend?
get the 6700k?
cough up the 1.15k for the 6900k+mobo?
wait for zen?
wait for kabby lake / 7700k?

It doesn't matter. This emulator is far from everyday use, but I remember the time when Disgaea 3 started in game with fracture of frame, and the only CPU that could break past the 1fps was Xeon E5520 on low clock. It showed 8 cores in use.

I got 23FPS in Metal Slug 3 and it's a very light-weight game . CPU is Haswell Core i7 4700MQ (4 cores 8 threads) @ 3.6GHz (OC mode) . Here is the benchmark test
With AMD FX 8350 (8 cores 8 threads) @ 4.5GHz , I got 15FPS
So I guess you will need 3x horsepower at least . No CPU on earth can run RPCS3 atm

good joke dude.

Metal Slug 3 can run fullspeed with LLVM

Hatsune Miku Project Diva F can run fullspeed even without LLVM (and on a weak iGPU !)

@Crimson_V It really depends on how much money do you have, but for any emulators, Intel CPUs are better (you need at least i5.) Also maybe things will change when AMD's new ZEN cpu will come out (its currently still unknown how many cores will they have).

Idk , the whole emulator starts freezing when I use LLVM . I thought LLVM wouldn't work
Interpreter is default setting so I went with that instead
LLVM seems to work fine after waiting for 1 min or so

its like that because LLVM is AoT compiler.
