Wow LLE have been on Core fore awhile now, you were using an old version for quite some time.
Hey Annie. I think modules can be obtained also from ps3 system update PS3UPDAT.PUP Its official update from sony site so completely legal to download. Can you update your 1st post with instructions how to extract modules from files packed in .pup? Once i found yutube clip showing this. Unfortunately it was removed after a few days.
Edit: Additional info: link to the firmware , official download https://www.playstation.com/en-us/suppor...dates/ps3/ Instructions http://netkas.org/?p=584 Unfortunately, for windows wee need cygwin

That's true, we can, and I've got the 4.76 modules by exactly extracting them from an update .PUP file. However, I'm not sure if that's legal because people who don't own a PS3 (I have one) can extract the firmware. cygwin isn't needed, I used a tool for that which extracts contents of the PS3UPDAT.PUP file and then from the dev_flash packed file. Since it's online on Sony's website for anyone to download though I might add it to the guide if no devs oppose to that.

Well, its different this time than it was with PS2. People with ps2 hardware had to dump bios themselfs (as there was no other way to get bios) otherwise it could mean they own bios from not their hardware. But while sony redistributes package, so i think whatever is in it is legal too. There is other side of things, the legality of tools used for extraction.

Since I'm not sure whether decompiling update packages to get firmware files is legal or not, I won't be doing a guide myself without further discussion.
That was the reason I didn't add that here before. There are various ways to get the modules, but we can't endorse illegal ones here. You might have some beginners luck while searcing for ps3 firmware files around the internet though.
